A thanks of sorts, and a request
April 14, 2008
Howdy, beloved reader(s?).
It’s been a busy week here at the NMTS offices, so we haven’t been able to post much.
My apologies.
In order to make up for this, I will post something for you…RIGHT NOW!
Aaaaand done.
Don’t worry, I’m just punking you, Natalie. That’s what friends do.
I was looking at the download count things on the songs I posted in my last (real) post, and noticed that Brand New’s “Moshi Moshi” was clocking in at a number much higher than our blog stats page would reflect, so I decided to post something else in the same vein.
Jesse Lacey - Moshi Moshi (live)
Fun fact, Jesse played this song because his mom had been “begging him to play it”, according to Jesse on the little witty banter MP3 that precedes it in my iTunes (which I have not included. HA HA)
Moshi Moshi is a pretty interesting song, as far as I’m concerned. It’s got some of the worst lyrics Jesse has ever written (outside of Magazines):
I think I’m crazy, baby
Let you off the hook too easy
If you were a telephone,
You’d still be off the hook.Seriously, Jesse? Come on. Moshi Moshi also happens to have one of my favorite Brand New choruses (which, again bears a similarity to Magazines, which has one of my favorite “emo” lines ever* despite otherwise stupid lyrics). Anyway, here’s the chorus:
Are you thinking of me?
When you’re putting on your makeup, darling
And dyeing your hair like you do?
Well, you’re wasting your time
If you’re trying to impress me
I waste all my time just thinking of you.
For this chorus alone, I almost wish this wasn’t a b-side. The way Jesse sings it is borderline anthem-like, and I think it would be really cool to hear a ton of BN fans belting it out at a concert.
So yeah, I’ve just nerded out a bit here. Continuing on, you’ll notice in the title I mention “a request”.
Here’s my request:
If you are actually reading this, and not just stumbling on this page because you googled Vampire Weekend, would it kill ya to leave a comment or something?
I mean really, COME ON.
Sorry, sorry…What I’m trying to say is: “leave us some love in the comments section, peeps.”
Bonus points if you point out the two times I quoted TV shows…
Till next time,
-Mr. Sam
*That’s an idea for a blog…really emo lines…hmm…
